Upgrading to Microsoft 365 Enterprise

License Requirements

To enable Microsoft 365 Enterprise on a device, the device must already have a fully licensed version of Windows 10 Pro Anniversary Update or later installed (Windows Home licenses do not meet the requirement). If the device runs Windows 7 Pro or Windows 8.1 Pro, you must upgrade it to Windows 10 Pro first. There is no need to purchase a separate upgrade license. When you subscribe to Microsoft 365 Enterprise you receive a link to download the full version of Windows 10 Pro.

When a user with a Microsoft 365 Enterprise license signs into a Windows 10 Pro device using Azure Active Directory credentials, Windows 10 Enterprise is activated on that device. If the Microsoft 365 Enterprise subscription ends or the license is transferred to another user, the device rolls back to Windows 10 Pro.

Azure Active Directory

To realize the full value of Microsoft 365 Enterprise, your customers' Windows 10 devices need to be joined to Azure Active Directory. Customers who continue to use on-premises Active Directory can synchronize their local directory with Azure AD using Active Directory Connect.
