The
MicroMux SP-3i range brings the enhanced
benefits of management and greater functionality
to the highly successful MicroMux product
range. Requests for managed versions of
the MicroMux SP-1, versions of the MicroMux
SP-3 with more ports, and support for PBX
drop and insert applications has lead to
the development of the MicroMux SP-3i.
The range starts with the SP-3i SRA, a single
channel unit with a DB25 interface. The
unit can be configured for X.21, EIA530,
RS449 or (with a move of internal jumpers)
V.35 operation. An adapter cable can be
supplied to present the standard port interface
for each of these standards. In-band remote
management is also supported. The bandwidth
required for remote management is either
by way of 4Kbit/s available by using one
of the international bits in TS0, or by
using any one of the 64K time slots. The
64k data path would have to be used if the
international bits are to be used by the
service provider, or are not transmitted
end to end by the service provider's network.
The MicroMux SP-3i also supports remote
management in clear channel mode. The local
unit signals to the remote unit by turning
on the G.704 framing protocol. The remote
unit senses this automatically and it too
turns on the G.704 framing protocol. The
DCE/DTE interface is down speeded to 1984Kbit/s
as part of this process. Once in this mode
the remote management uses the spare bits
in TS0 for communication. The two units
can then agree to use a full 64K time slot
if required. When the remote management
session is no longer required the remote
unit is returned to the clear channel mode
by turning off the G.704 framing protocol
on the transmit from the local unit. The
SP3i-SDP, SFP, SHP are the two, four and
six port versions of the family and have
all the same features of the SRA and insert
multiplexor. As well as this with its two
G.703 ports the Ultima can also be used
as a central site multiplexor allowing two
G.703 circuits, from two remote sites, to
be connected to it or for drop & insert
applications. The management on a special
version of the Ultima can be set to monitor
up to 60 remote SP-3i units as a central
management station.
