The
SkyNet® Ethernet Series of freespace
optical transmission systems have been designed
to provide a secure 10 Mb/s Ethernet connection
across open spaces without the need for
DTI licensing and any recurrent licensing
fees. There are three models of the SkyNet®
Ethernet Series giving connection capabilities
over distances of 500, 2000 and 4000 metres.
Located within the Infra red head unit is
an AUI DTE 15 pin socket to which is mounted
a standard form transceiver which gives
the ability for connection formats utilising
either ThinNet, UTP, Fibre or AUI cable.
Due to the unique nature of the SkyNet®
series the products do not affect the standard
configuration of any networks and do not
act as a hub/bridge or add to the repeater
count. All systems are totally transparent
to the network and act in exactly the same
manner as a section of cable, the SkyNet®
Series are a true plug and play connectivity
solution. By utilising a unique advanced
error resistant coding the SkyNet® Series
offers a highly secure connection between
sites and a connection which cannot be detected
by standard RF scanners or spectrum analysers.
The system offers an industry accepted performance
availability figure, which, through field
trials and independent laboratory testing,
has achieved a continuous operational availability
in excess of 99.1% to 99.9% within the UK
and world-wide. All SkyNet® systems
have been designed to the highest specifications
and offer a bit error rate greater than
10-10 during operational availability.
