The
FOM-E1/T1, Fibre Optic Modem, provides a
means of extending the distance of standard
G.703 signals using low cost fibre optic
cable. Conversion is provided for:
•
E1
(2.048 Mbps) and
•
T1
(1.544 Mbps)
The FOM-E1/T1 complies with CCITT standards
G.703, G.921 and G.956. The electrical interface
includes circuits for recovering data and
clock according to the G.703 standard. Internal
selection is provided for the following
interfaces:
•
100
Ohms balanced for T1 (1.544 Mbps)
•
120
Ohms balanced for E1 (2.048 Mbps)
•
75
Ohms unbalanced for E1 (2.048 Mbps)
Two BNC coax connectors and a D-type 15-pin
connector are used for connection to coax
or twisted pair cables. LED status indicators
and a supervisory port are provided for
indicating system faults. Two diagnostic
loops are available: local loop-back and
remote loop-back. The FOM-E1/T1 is designed
to operate with several grades and sizes
of fibre optic cable. It provides all the
benefits of fibre optic, such as noise immunity,
high security and no RFI interference. Two
different optical interfaces are available:
850nm wavelength for use with Multimode
fibres, and 1300nm wavelength for use with
Singlemode fibres.
A LASER diode option is available for extended
range. The FOM-E1/T1 is available as a stand-alone
unit or as a card for a 19" card cage.
The card cage can hold up to 14 cards. Special
hardware is also available for mounting
one or two stand-alone units in a 19"
rack.
