The
ET2100 enables engineers and installers
to quickly identify fibre cables
and measure losses due to bad joints,
broken cables etc. The testing function
allows the user to transmit a calibrated
light source down a cable to another
unit. The receiving unit displays
the incoming optical level on an
illuminated scale capable of resolving
light level to within 0.5dBm. The
ET2100 supports both the testing
of 50µm and 62.5µm fibres
and a front panel switch allows
the calibration of the light source
to be adjusted accordingly to provide
accurate attenuation measurements.
To overcome the problem of engineers
communicating between the two terminating
locations, the ET2100 incorporates
a full audio facility which allows
personnel at each end to simultaneously
send and receive audio whilst carrying
out the attenuation tests. The unit
comes complete with an integral
microphone and only requires an
external earphone / headphone to
complete the audio facility.
