The ASM-31 sync/async short range modem operates full duplex over 2 wires at distances up to 8Km. The unit is also capable of operating at selectable data rates from 600bps to 128Kbps. Full duplex operation is achieved using the adaptive echo-cancelling technique (where one modem is set to master and the other to slave). 2B1Q line coding gives the ASM-31 an operating range of up to 8Km for all data rates, with an internal rate adapter converting all DTE rates to a line data rate of 128Kbps. The ASM-31 can perform local and remote loopbacks to test line integrity, includes a BER for complete end-to-end testing and is fitted with line protection circuits to protect against lightning and power surges.
